About Theophile Hughes
My name – Theophile Hughes – captures my bicultural identity: French first name from my mother, English surname from my father, native fluency in both languages.
Born in England, I hold a BA from the University of Manchester (Politics, Philosophy and Economics) and an MA from Leiden University (International Relations). I also completed an exchange semester at Sciences Po Paris.
I obtained my Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) in 2017 and have taught English professionally across five countries – France, the Netherlands, Russia, Thailand, and Laos. I’ve worked with students of all ages, but I particularly enjoy working with professionals. They tend to appreciate nuance, contribute depth of experience, and approach their language development with real commitment, which makes for engaging and effective lessons.
My current focus is on English teaching (general and business contexts), IELTS preparation, interview coaching, and French-English and English-French translation.

I don’t use standardised curricula – instead, I design lessons tailored to your needs, whether that’s mastering business presentations, achieving your IELTS target score, or communicating effectively in high-stakes professional situations.
As a fully bilingual teacher who has worked extensively with French speakers, I have practical insight into where challenges commonly arise. Lessons are conducted in English for maximum immersion, but I can provide explanations in French when this accelerates comprehension – particularly for complex grammatical concepts or nuanced vocabulary.
My students tend to remain with me long-term because I create an environment where progress happens naturally through consistent, focused practice.
Based in Chiang Mai, Thailand (GMT+7), I offer morning availability ideal for European time zones.

For translation work, I provide accurate French-English and English-French translation for technical and business documents. All translations include formatting, and I work efficiently to meet your deadlines whilst maintaining precision.
